Privacy Policy

Effective from June 15, 2026

This Privacy Policy (the "Policy") governs the processing of personal data of users of the Meerno mobile application and the pages of the meerno.spacewebsite (collectively, the "Services").

1. Definitions

Services — the Meerno mobile application for learning foreign vocabulary and the pages of the meerno.space website.

User (You) — any individual who uses the Services and has reached the age of full legal capacity under the law of their country of citizenship.

Operator (We) — Meerno, an independent developer and owner of the Services.

2. Scope

2.1. This Policy applies to all interactions between the Operator and Users concerning personal data while using the Services.

2.2. This Policy does not regulate the processing of data by third-party services and applications you may interact with through the Services (e.g., Apple, Adapty, DeepL). Their operations are governed by their own privacy policies.

2.3. If you do not agree with the terms of this Policy, do not use the Services.

3. What data we collect

3.1. Data you provide directly

  • at registration: name, email address, password (stored as a cryptographic hash);
  • via Sign in with Apple: unique Apple user identifier, name, email address (or an Apple relay address if you choose to hide your email);
  • content of dictionaries and words you create: source text, translation, transcription, notes, attached images;
  • audio recordings you upload for words;
  • text you enter into the translator;
  • onboarding answers (target language, proficiency level, learning goals).

3.2. Data collected automatically

  • device: model, iOS version, device identifier (IDFV), language, time zone, region;
  • app usage: events, session duration, learning progress, training metrics, last activity date;
  • purchases: App Store transaction history, subscription status, plan identifier;
  • diagnostics: crash and error reports for troubleshooting;
  • network: IP address (used only for technical purposes and abuse prevention; not retained long-term).

3.3. Device feature permissions

The app requests permissions only on first use of the corresponding feature; declining does not block core functionality:

  • Camera — to take a photo and attach it as an image to a word;
  • Photo Library — to pick an existing photo as a word image;
  • Microphone & Speech Recognition — to convert your speech to text for translation;
  • Notifications — to send training reminders (only if you opt in);
  • Pasteboard — to suggest pasting copied text into the translator field.

3.4. What we do not collect

We do not store card numbers, CVV codes, or full payment credentials. All payments are processed by Apple (App Store) and Adapty in accordance with their privacy policies.

4. Purposes and legal bases for processing

We process your data exclusively for the following purposes:

  • providing app functionality, syncing dictionaries and progress across devices;
  • maintaining your account, recovering access, email verification;
  • providing paid features (Premium subscription), tracking usage limits on the free tier;
  • improving the Services: analysis of anonymized usage metrics;
  • technical support upon your request;
  • protection against abuse and automated use (anti-abuse).

We do not use automated decision-making (including profiling) that produces legal effects concerning you.

5. Third-party services

To operate the Services we use technology partners. Sharing is limited to the minimum data required for the corresponding function:

  • Apple — Sign in with Apple, processing of purchases and subscriptions via the App Store, push notification delivery (APNs).
  • Adapty — subscription status management and purchase receipt validation.
  • Machine translation service — translation of texts you enter into the translator. Texts are sent without user identifiers.
  • AI-enrichment service — generation of word descriptions and context when you use the corresponding feature. Only the word text is sent, without user identifiers.

We do not process special categories of personal data (such as racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, health, sex life or sexual orientation — GDPR Art. 9) and we do not process biometric data.

We may also disclose data when required by applicable law, a court order, or a request from government authorities.

6. Data storage

6.1. Account credentials, dictionaries, learning progress and transaction history are stored on the servers of our technical partner.

6.2. Communication between the app and our servers is protected by TLS encryption.

6.3. Retention periods:

  • active account — for as long as you use the Services;
  • inactive account without a verified email — may be deleted after 12 months of inactivity;
  • transaction history — for the period required by tax and financial law;
  • anonymized usage metrics — retained indefinitely for analytics purposes.

7. Your rights

Depending on applicable law (including the EU General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 "GDPR" and the Russian Federal Law No. 152-FZ "On Personal Data"), you have the right to:

  • access your personal data;
  • request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data;
  • request erasure of your data ("right to be forgotten");
  • restrict or object to processing;
  • receive a copy of your data in a machine-readable format (right to data portability);
  • withdraw previously granted consent at any time;
  • lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority.

To exercise these rights, send an email to support@meerno.space describing your request. We will respond within the period required by applicable law (typically within 30 days). We may verify your identity before fulfilling the request.

8. Data security

We apply organizational and technical safeguards: TLS encryption of the communication channel, password hashing, server access control, regular dependency updates. Despite these measures, we cannot guarantee the absolute security of data transmitted over the internet.

9. Children's data

The Services are not intended for individuals below the age of full legal capacity under the law of their country of citizenship. We do not knowingly collect personal data from such individuals without parental or guardian consent. If you become aware that a child's data has been provided to us without consent, please contact us and we will delete it.

10. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy. Material changes will be announced in the app and/or by email. The date of the current version is shown at the top of this document.
